Welcome to the May 2024 updates of Freewheeling Kiwi

Spending the last six months hiking has given me plenty of time to plan the direction of Freewheeling Kiwi and how best to continue to inspire and motivate you to spend more time in nature.

Since returning from Asia just two weeks ago, I’ve been overhauling the Freewheeling Kiwi website with an aim to improving your experience.

I’m thrilled to share below the first of many articles on the FWK Blog, an initiative aimed at filling in some of the back stories to my videos.

This month’s Blog focuses on my recent trek to Everest Base Camp. Even if you’re not a hiker, there’s plenty of takeaways in these stories that you can apply to your own life.

Strength comes to those who hike

If you’ve been around for a while, you’ll know that Merrell NZ have proactively supported the Freewheeling Kiwi’s mission.

Initially they made contact while Andrew and I were hiking Te Araroa. They’d seen the issues we’d had early on with our other shoes and generously kitted us out with replacements.

When you consider we each wore out four pairs on that 3000 kilometre walk, we were very grateful.

On hearing of our plans to hike to Everest Base Camp and without hesitation, Merrell went on to provide our shoes and much of the clothing that Andrew and I wore in Nepal and Malaysia.

As I’ve noted in my article, I’m nothing special, I’m not a super fit athlete nor by any means rich, but somehow I’ve overcome the obstacles and after all this time, I’ve figured out a way to live my life by design.
