Welcome to the October 2024 updates of Freewheeling Kiwi. In this month’s letter;

Some ideas take a little longer than others and during this past month, I’ve been fortunate to have realised my very first goal. Find out below where Freewheeling Kiwi will be Putting Down Roots 🌳 

Whether you’re heading out on trail by yourself, with a friend or  group, the importance of taking an emergency communication device cannot be overstated. This month I share with you what I use to stay in touch with my family 🚨

The Great Walks season opens shortly and my Milford Track Snapshot provides glimpses at some of the highlights that I experienced when walking that stunning trail πŸ₯Ύ

In addition to the Snapshot, I’ve written the Milford Track Essential Gear List which shows what I took on that adventure. With the benefit of thousands more kilometres walked, I highlight which items I’d now choose to swap out and why I’d make those changes πŸŽ’

I’m thrilled to present the first of our Success Stories. The purpose of these stories is to provide us all with greater  inspiration and confidence when it comes to spending time in nature  πŸ’«

Andrew and I leave for Kathmandu, Nepal in less than two weeks commencing the Everest Base Camp Trek on 2nd November πŸ‡³πŸ‡΅We then head east to to explore the huge city of Guangzhou in China πŸ‡¨πŸ‡³

Putting Down Roots 🌳

Coromandel

Some years ago, I decided it was time to find the forever land, a place to put down roots, literally, to plant trees, connect more closely with nature and create a legacy.

I walked the length of New Zealand to see what else there was but nowhere called to me like the northern Coromandel.

Two weeks ago I became the custodian of an off-grid paradise featuring nothing but exquisite nature.

There’s a rocky stream with a swimming hole and mud slide. Manuka, puriri, nikau and tΔ« kōuka trees cloak the hillsides and gullies. Punga surround the tiny yet vital spring.

Kaka call loudly during the day and from our tent, Andrew and I heard a solitary kiwi calling optimistically for his mate.

I’ve many plans and am excited to say that in time I will share this land with the Freewheeling Kiwi Community incorporating it into future Group Trips.
