In December I’ll be walking the Routeburn and Greenstone Tracks, combining the two tracks to make what is going to be an epic four night, five day solo walk. This video covers off my preparations for the walk including where I’m going, the facilities and costs of the Routeburn compared to the Greenstone track, what I’ll be taking in my pack and where to get more information.

The Kepler Track is a challenging yet hugely rewarding four-day trail over the mountains taking you from the beech forested shorelines of Lake Te Anau to Lake Manapouri by way of tussock covered ridgelines with spectacular alpine vistas.

The Routeburn Track is one of the NZ Great Walks. Come with me on this EPIC three day, two night SOLO adventure, hiking from the Routeburn Shelter to Lake Howden before leaving the Routeburn Track and joining the Greenstone Track / Caples Track.

The Greenstone Caples Track is a fabulous addition to the Routeburn Track, one of the NZ Great Walks. Come with me on this EPIC three day, two night SOLO adventure, hiking from Lake Howden to the trailhead and Greenstone Shelter. Prior to this I had walked the Routeburn Track out to Lake Howden and carried on to the Greenstone Track, completing an epic five day solo backpacking trip.

This is the first day of my solo hike of the Routeburn and Greenstone Tracks where I combined the two tracks to make what was an epic four night, five day solo walk.

I found the third day of my solo hike on the Routeburn and Greenstone Tracks harder than the second due to the weather and the uncertainty it created as to whether I’d be able to continue on to the Greenstone Track.

On the second day of my solo hike of the Routeburn Track and Greenstone Tracks I hiked from the Routeburn Falls Hut, up and over the Harris Saddle at 1300 metres above sea level and then down to the McKenzie Lake and Hut.

On the fourth day of my solo hike of the Routeburn Track and Greenstone Tracks I hiked from the McKellar Hut down the beautiful Greenstone Valley and alongside the Greenstone River to the Greenstone Hut.

On the fifth day of my solo hike of the Routeburn Track and Greenstone Tracks I hiked from the Greenstone Hut down the remainder of the beautiful Greenstone Valley to the confluence of the Greenstone and Caples Valleys and also confluence of the Greenstone River with the Caples River finishing at the Greenstone Shelter.
